General

Bausch + Lomb offers two daily disposable contact lens families for your patients:

Both families are indicated for daily wear with single-use disposal.

Bausch + Lomb offers the ULTRA® Monthly (samfilcon A) contact lens family:

ULTRA® Monthly lenses are indicated for daily wear or extended wear up to 7 days/6 nights.

The daily vs monthly replacement lens decision depends on patient lifestyle, compliance history, and clinical factors:

  • INFUSE® One-Day or Biotrue® ONEday daily disposable lenses are recommended for patients who prioritize convenience, have compliance concerns with cleaning/storage, experience contact lens dryness
  • ULTRA® Monthly replacement lenses are recommended for patients who prefer extended wear flexibility (up to 7 days/6 nights with ULTRA®), are cost-conscious for full-time wear, or need both presbyopia and astigmatism correction

Both INFUSE® One-Day and ULTRA® Monthly use silicone hydrogel materials with high Dk/t values. The key differentiator is the wear modality and associated patient lifestyle fit.

INFUSE® One-Day

Kalifilcon A is the next-generation non-surface-treated silicone hydrogel material used in INFUSE® One-Day contact lenses:

Water content 55%
Modulus 0.5 MPa
Oxygen transmissibility (Dk/t) 134 @ -3.00D (sphere, multifocal)
107 @ -3.00D (toric)

ProBalance Technology® is a proprietary formulation inspired by the TFOS DEWS II findings on tear film composition. Three ingredient categories work synergistically:

Osmoprotectants Erythritol and glycerin help maintain ocular surface homeostasis under hyperosmotic stress1
Electrolytes Potassium plays an important role in ocular surface homeostasis2
Moisturizers Poloxamine 1107 and Poloxamer 181 help retain hydration, provide a smooth, wettable surface, and maintain tear proteins in their healthy state1

These ingredients are infused directly into the kalifilcon A lens material, not applied as a surface coating, and are released during lens wear.

Yes. All three INFUSE® One-Day lens types use the same kalifilcon A material infused with the same ProBalance Technology® formulation. Material properties and moisture retention are consistent across indications.

The differentiating factor between indications is the optic design:

  • Sphere: high-definition optics for reduced halos and glare
  • Toric: OpticAlign® Design with high-definition optics for lens stability and reduced halos and glare
  • Multifocal: 3-Zone Progressive Design for exceptional vision at all distances

The TFOS DEWS II Management and Therapy Report identifies contact lens wear as a contributor to tear film instability and ocular surface disruption, linking it to dry eye signs, symptoms, and contact lens discomfort. ProBalance Technology® was formulated with three ingredient categories in reference to DEWS II and DEWS III findings:

Osmoprotectants Erythritol and glycerin help maintain ocular surface homeostasis under hyperosmotic stress1
Electrolytes Potassium plays an important role in ocular surface homeostasis2
Moisturizers Poloxamine 1107 and Poloxamer 181 help retain hydration, provide a smooth, wettable surface, and maintain tear proteins in their healthy state1

The kalifilcon A material maintains 96% of its moisture for 16 hours.1 Next-generation material infused with ProBalance Technology® helps maintain ocular surface homeostasis to aid in minimizing symptoms of contact lens dryness.

Yes. A large-scale, real-world study of reusable contact lens wearers found that INFUSE® One-Day lenses performed well across both dryness and non-dryness groups. Survey results showed strong overall comfort ratings in both groups. Notably, participants who identified as experiencing dryness reported higher comfort-related agreement scores than those in the non-dry group.3*

*Based on a 2-week, multicenter, real-world study of 393 adapted silicone hydrogel contact lens wearers (including dryness and non-dry subgroups). Outcomes were based on subject-reported comfort and vision ratings using a Likert scale and investigator assessments.

High-definition optics minimizes spherical aberration across the entire power range. Spherical aberration occurs when light rays passing through the outer edges of a curved lens are focused at a slightly different point on the retina than rays passing through the center, resulting in reduced image sharpness. Model eye testing at +0.18 μm spherical aberration over a 6 mm pupil diameter demonstrates notably reduced aberration with INFUSE® One-Day vs without correction. This translates to reduced halos and glare, particularly in low-light conditions. The technology is shared across INFUSE® One-Day sphere and toric lenses.

†Average +0.18 μm over a 6.0 mm pupil diameter.

In a survey of patients who wore INFUSE® One-Day trial lenses for ≥7 days, patients agreed that:

  • They can comfortably wear INFUSE® One-Day all day (94% agreement)
  • INFUSE® One-Day helps keep their lenses from feeling dry (94% agreement)
  • They have a positive overall opinion of the lenses (96% agreement)
  • They have a more favorable impression of their ECP for recommending INFUSE® One-Day (93% agreement)

‡Results of an online survey with patients who completed an evaluation program for Bausch + Lomb INFUSE® contact lenses and wore their trial lenses for ≥7 days (n=777). Survey results include patients who strongly agreed, agreed, or slightly agreed (on a 6-point agreement scale) with the surveyed statement, with a margin of error ±1.7%.

Patients and prescribers reported high overall satisfaction with INFUSE® One-Day contact lenses in a recent real-world study. Patient-reported satisfaction included:

  • Overall comfort throughout the day (91% agreement)
  • Clear vision throughout the day (90% agreement)
  • Ease of handling (92% agreement)

Among prescribers:

  • 92% reported overall satisfaction
  • 96% said the lens was easy to fit
  • 91% said they would recommend it to other ECPs

§Based on a multicountry, real-world study of 9577 adult patients fitted with kalifilcon A daily disposable lenses by 1308 eye care practitioners across 11 European countries.

INFUSE® One-Day demonstrates two key differences:

  1. ProBalance Technology®: the only daily disposable with a proprietary osmoprotectant + electrolyte + moisturizer system inspired by DEWS II
  2. Material: kalifilcon A is non-surface-treated SiHy unlike DAILIES TOTAL1 and PRECISION1

INFUSE® One-Day next-generation material offers the leading combination of overall moisture and breathability.1

  Breathability Overall moisture
INFUSE® One-Day
(Spherical and Multifocal)
134 Dk/t 55% moisture
DAILIES TOTAL1 156 Dk/t 33% moisture#
ACUVUE OASYS 1-Day 121 Dk/t 38% moisture
MyDay 100 Dk/t 54% moisture
PRECISION1 100 Dk/t 51% moisture#
clariti 1 day 86 Dk/t 56% moisture

¶Oxygen transmissibility @ -3.00D.

#Unlike INFUSE®, ACUVUE OASYS 1-Day, MyDay, and clariti 1 day, which are non-surface-treated silicone hydrogel daily disposables, DAILIES TOTAL1 and PRECISION1 are silicone hydrogel daily disposables with an integrated surface coating.

Patient selection by refractive need:

All share kalifilcon A with ProBalance Technology® for consistent comfort and moisture. The differentiator is optic design: standard high-definition optics for spherical and toric lenses, OpticAlign® Design for toric lenses, and 3-Zone Progressive Design for multifocal lenses.

Same-day transition is typical for sphere and toric fits. Key differentiators to communicate:

  • ProBalance Technology® is a proprietary blend of three ingredient types infused directly into the lens and released throughout the day
  • High combination of overall moisture and breathability across sphere, toric, and multifocal
  • Low modulus helps reduce the impact on the ocular surface and provide a comfortable lens wearing experience

Provide trial lenses and schedule follow-up to assess comfort, visual acuity, and fit.

INFUSE® One-Day is designed to streamline the fitting process across indications. The spherical lens offers patients excellent handling during insertion and removal. The toric lens OpticAlign® Design settles fast and remains stable with each blink. The Bausch + Lomb 2 ADD System provides comprehensive multifocal coverage with fewer ADDs, resulting in a straightforward fit. In fact, 87% of Bausch + Lomb multifocal lens wearers were successfully fit in one visit.**

**Results from a 20-site, 3-week study of Bausch + Lomb INFUSE® Multifocal contact lenses on 294 habitual multifocal soft contact lens wearers.

UV protection††

††WARNING: UV-absorbing contact lenses are NOT substitutes for protective UV-absorbing eyewear such as UV-absorbing goggles or sunglasses because they do not completely cover the eye and surrounding area. The effectiveness of wearing UV-absorbing contact lenses in preventing or reducing the incidence of ocular disorders associated with exposure to UV light has not been established at this time. You should continue to use UV-absorbing eyewear as directed. NOTE: Long-term exposure to UV radiation is one of the risk factors associated with cataracts. Exposure is based on a number of factors such as environmental conditions (altitude, geography, cloud cover) and personal factors (extent and nature of outdoor activities). UV-blocking contact lenses help provide protection against harmful UV radiation. However, clinical studies have not been done to demonstrate that wearing UV-blocking contact lenses reduces the risk of developing cataracts or other eye disorders.

Yes. However, UV-absorbing contact lenses are not substitutes for protective UV-absorbing eyewear because they do not completely cover the eye. Advise patients to continue wearing UV-absorbing eyewear. UV protection availability varies by power range, see package insert for details.††

INFUSE®  One-Day for Astigmatism

OpticAlign® Design settles fast and remains stable with each blink, working with the natural blink mechanism to maintain consistent lens orientation.

High-definition optics minimize spherical aberration across both axes, specifically beneficial in low-light or mesopic conditions.1 As pupils dilate, spherical aberration increases. The optimized optic design mitigates this, reducing halos and glare in low-light conditions like nighttime driving and evening screen use.

Recent data showed that overall, the INFUSE® One-Day for Astigmatism lenses exhibited excellent orientation and rotational stability. The effectiveness of toric contact lenses largely depends on their ability to achieve proper orientation and maintain rotational stability during wear. Primary gaze orientation of the lenses was within 3° of the ideal orientation position at all time points and statistically significantly better than the ACUVUE OASYS 1-Day for ASTIGMATISM daily disposable lenses at all measured timepoints. After 30 seconds, 95% of INFUSE® One-Day for Astigmatism lenses were within 10° of the ideal orientation position compared to 83% of the ACUVUE OASYS 1-Day toric lenses.2*

*Based on a bilateral, randomized, masked insertion study of 30 soft toric contact lens wearers. Lens orientation, rotational stability, centration, and movement were assessed over approximately 10 minutes of wear and compared with a daily disposable toric comparator lens.

INFUSE® One-Day for Astigmatism availability at -2.25D and -2.75D expands the daily disposable toric option set for moderate-to-high astigmatism. Axis availability ranges from 0° to 180° in 10° increments and varies by cylinder power. High-cylinder patients represent an underserved segment in the daily toric market.

INFUSE® One-Day for Astigmatism is the only SiHy daily disposable toric with -2.25D and -2.75D Cylinder powers available in a fitting set.

†Compared to ACUVUE OASYS 1-Day for ASTIGMATISM, clariti 1 day toric, PRECISION1 for Astigmatism, DAILIES TOTAL1 for Astigmatism, and MyDay toric.

INFUSE®  One-Day Multifocal

INFUSE® One-Day Multifocal is optimized for seven key biometrics to support clear vision across distances. Its 3-Zone Progressive Design goes beyond pupil size and refraction to incorporate a broader set of eye characteristics, including: pupil size, subjective refraction, higher-order aberrations, residual accommodation, corneal topography/diameter, anterior chamber depth, and axial length.1

Yes. Recent data found no meaningful correlation between pupil size and vision performance at distance, intermediate, or near. In the study, the
INFUSE® One-Day Multifocal 3-Zone Progressive Design delivered favorable vision ratings across all distances for patients with a wide range of pupil sizes.2*

*Based on a 3-week, single-arm, open-label clinical study of 292 habitual multifocal contact lens wearers aged ≥40 years. Visual acuity and patient-reported vision performance (0–100 scale) were assessed at distance, intermediate, and near.

In a multicenter clinical study, 87.4% of participants were successfully fit in one visit and 99.0% were successfully fit in two visits. Eye care practitioners agreed that the lens fitting process was straightforward for all subjects and that the lens delivered clear vision and helped maintain a smooth, wettable lens surface.3† In a separate real-world evaluation, wearers also reported positive experiences, with 95.2% saying the lenses were comfortable all day, 92.3% saying they provided clear vision all day, and 95.6% saying they helped minimize contact lens dryness.4‡

†Based on a prospective, multicenter, single-arm, open-label clinical study of 294 habitual multifocal contact lens wearers aged ≥40 years across 20 US sites. Participants wore lenses for 3 weeks.

‡Based on a real-world evaluation of 151 presbyopic patients prescribed multifocal lenses in routine clinical practice. Participants wore lenses for 7–10 days before completing a survey assessing comfort, vision, and overall experience using a likert scale.

Advise patients to avoid visually demanding activities like driving or computer use during the initial adaptation period, typically a few days to one week.

  1. Simplify the conversation around presbyopia with relatable lifestyle questions
  2. Encourage gradual adaptation by starting in lower-demand visual environments
  3. Prepare patients for a short adjustment period with progressive lens designs
  4. Use follow-up visits and the Fitting Calculator to optimize fit and vision
  5. Reinforce the value of multifocal lenses throughout the patient journey

Previously fitted multifocal wearers may adapt faster than first-time multifocal patients.

INFUSE® One-Day Multifocal is not available as a toric multifocal variant. For presbyopic astigmatism patients, Bausch + Lomb offers ULTRA® Multifocal for Astigmatism Monthly.
